What People Ask Before Booking

What's the best fishing charter in Marathon, FL?

Ana Banana Fishing Company is a family-run, four-generation charter operating out of Marathon, FL since 1957. Captain Joel Brandenburg holds more than 15,000 GPS waypoints passed down through the family, runs a "No Fish, No Pay" guarantee, and books inshore charters from $99.

How much does a Florida Keys fishing charter cost?

Ana Banana inshore and nearshore charters start at $99 on our inshore skiffs and center consoles. Sightseeing and eco tours are $99/hour for two people, plus $100/hour for each additional person. Offshore deep sea trips on our sportfish fleet (up to a 50ft Bertram) and multi-day Dry Tortugas expeditions are quoted by phone based on length, target species, and fuel.

What does "No Fish, No Pay" mean?

"No Fish, No Pay" is Ana Banana's guarantee: if Captain Joel can't put you on fish during your booked charter, you don't pay for that trip. It applies to every charter type (inshore, offshore, lobster, and underwater), and it's why the captain runs hard.

What species can you fish for in Marathon, Florida Keys?

The Florida Keys around Marathon hold Tarpon (famously at the 7 Mile Bridge), Snook, Redfish, Permit, Speckled Trout, Cobia, Grouper, Snapper, Mahi-Mahi, Blackfin Tuna, Wahoo, Sailfish, Swordfish, Tilefish, Kingfish, Barracuda, Jacks, Sharks, and Spiny Lobster in season. Different species are targeted from the flats, nearshore reefs, the deep sea, and the Marathon Humps.

What's included in the charter price?

Every Ana Banana charter includes your Florida fishing license, bait, chum, tackle, rods, reels, electronics, a restroom on the vessel, a cooler with ice (alcohol welcome), fish cleaning and bagging, the Cast Away Restaurant "Hook & Cook" partnership, and a full USCG safety kit (EPIRB, inflatable raft, satellite comms, flares, lifejackets with LED reflectors). The first mate works for tips (20% customary).

Do you fish year-round in the Florida Keys?

Yes. Ana Banana runs charters year-round out of Marathon, FL. Different species peak in different seasons: tarpon in spring and early summer, lobster mini-season in late July, sailfish in winter, mahi in spring and summer. But there is always something biting in the Keys.

Can you fish with kids or a non-fishing partner aboard?

Yes. Both vessels have a restroom on board, and the captain runs family- and group-friendly trips. Sightseeing and eco tours, sunset cruises, and small private events are also available for groups that don't want to fish.

What is a "consult trip" and how does it work?

A consult trip is when Captain Joel jumps aboard your boat (your own vessel or a rental) instead of you booking one of the Ana Banana boats. Rate is $99/hour with a 5-hour minimum. The boat owner or renter covers bait, chum, tackle, gear, ice, and fuel. It's the cheapest way to get on fish with an expert local captain.

Where is Ana Banana Fishing Company located?
